latter type, Cayce once interpreted a certain dream as "the liver complaining about its difficulties."

The usefulness of dream interpretation as an aid in the treatment of sinusitis revealed interesting results in our study. One participant had a dream of real significance related to sinusitis. All participants indicated renewed efforts at self- improvement, that choices concerning major decisions became clarified, and that important relationships improved. There was an increase in dream recall and meaningful dream interpretation. The effects of this study seem to be significant mainly in the area of improving the subjective sense of self- awareness. Objective results would require a long-term follow- up, certainly a weakness of this study.

A disease of more recent onset might reveal more objective changes as a result of dream work than would a chronic condition such as sinusitis. Also, the individual approaches of dream interpreters would be an important, yet hard to define, characteristic. In our study, there was possibly an insufficient number of workshop sessions. For objective changes to occur, it is possible that the individual experience would need to be more intense, such as that used in preparation for Reed's dream incubation procedure; however, even in Reed's approach, the real change occurred following a daily application of that which was gained from the incubated dream.

In summary, we feel that dream analysis is a helpful means of dealing with disease. Although dream incubation may be a possible form of treatment for a psychosomatic illness, such as sinusitis, apparently it would require more systematic application for physical changes to occur. The results of the present study did show that it is possible to induce a dream that symbolically portrays the disease. It is hoped that the effort of this present study may contribute to the necessary further research required to discover the optimal conditions needed to produce a curative dream.
