present. Sometimes a general theme would be picked up and I would
be aware of certain images that repetitively appeared during the
night.
I generally found that the telepathic elements occurred whenever I experienced a sense of intrusion or of disruption in an ongoing dream sequence. In the Miami study, for example, I was walking across the campus minding my own dream business when I suddenly was impelled to enter the building and watch the boxing match before returning to the campus. There were several similar promptings during the Maimonides study when an incongruous foreign element seemed to materialize out of the blue. On the fourth night I had a dream in which I think I am on a Caribbean Island called Andros and Calvin Hall comes riding along on a bicycle with some young boy on the handle bars. It is the middle of the day and for some inexplicable reason I look up at the sky. Below is the verbatim dream description: I look up at the sky and it seems to be full of stars, and the stars have a very sort of golden color to them. Then I look over in one direction and it seems as if one of the stars is falling, so I think I should make a wish on the star and I do. I make the wish that I would write the greatest book or the most definitive text on dreams. Then I look over to another part of the sky and it seems as if this were the Milky Way and it seems as if there are millions of stars and they are very vivid and very much this golden color. They are less the color you would see in real life and more like the gold stars you would see from a fireworks display or something of that sort. The target picture for that night was Kathak Dancing Girls by an unknown Indian artist. Around the entire border of this picture was a large number of very big golden stars. It is interesting to note that when I mentioned the Caribbean Island of Andros to the agent the next day, she said that when she was looking at the target picture she found herself thinking about a recent trip she had made to the Caribbean Island of Aruba. The effect of the agent's associations and activities was apparent on several nights. A particularly dramatic example appears in the transcript of my dream below: Stan Krippner is carrying on a running conversation with us about the utility of ESP in a therapy situation. He is saying that it would be a good way to discover strong-willed subjects and then not to use them for therapy because they had too much of a strong mind of their own. It seems to be tied in with this discussion about therapy, but there are four little dolls involved 96
