little live action to his effort, Calvin had been throwing a
few punches himself as he moved about the basement where the monitor's
room was located.
His curiosity now thoroughly aroused, Calvin made preparations to try another sending session the next time I was a subject in the laboratory. On two subsequent nights I also successfully dreamed of the target picture Calvin was sending. These experiences changed Calvin's previous attitude of slight skepticism to one of acceptance. Since he had been the agent and knew that no "hanky-panky" had been involved and that there was no normal way I could have received information concerning the stimulus situations he had created, he felt forced to acknowledge that a telepathic influence in dreams could be demonstrated under laboratory conditions. Excited by the correspondences obtained with me, Calvin also attempted some telepathic "sending" with a few other subjects and some of them also showed encouraging results. Dr. Hall subsequently published a scientific paper on this study in a German journal. This paper represented the first published confirmation of the Maimonides findings by another laboratory. After hearing about the successful outcome at Miami, Ullman and Krippner asked if I would be willing to serve as a percipient for one of their studies at Maimonides. I agreed. Every six weeks or so, I would fly to New York City to become a percipient for a "one night stand" and then return home the following day. After my morning judging had been completed, Dr. Ullman interviewed me concerning my feelings about the agent, my psychological mood of the night before, and about any unusual thoughts or sensations I may have experienced during the dreams. These interviews were similar to a therapy session, and I was as open and honest as possible concerning my feelings and associations to everyone and everything connected with the experiment. We hoped that these psychodynamic explorations might lead us to some clues as to how, when, or why ESP operated, at least as far as my performance was concerned. On every single night there was some element of the target picture mentioned in at least one dream report. For example, a church was mentioned when a church appeared in the target picture; a policeman was mentioned when a policeman appeared in the target picture. Sometimes the details would be extremely minute. One night I correctly indicated that one of the characters was wearing a suit with a vest that didn't match it in texture or color. On another night I correctly stated that several small, coiled ropes were 95
