remember my telling her about the cruise until we discussed her
dream in November.
A further indication that Nancy may have been in clairvoyant contact with me is a dream Darlene had during the last two weeks in October, possibly during the same night Nancy had her dream. Darlene and I discussed her dream on the morning after it occurred, but we were not able to understand it at that time. Linden and I are in bed talking about a party we had given at our house that evening. I am saying something about Nancy, who had been one of our guests. We are startled when someone moves in our bedroom. It is Nancy. She has been sitting in an oak, straight-back chair and stands up when she hears me talking. She says that she wants us to know that she didn't overhear anything that we wouldn't have wanted her to hear. Then she sits down on a second oak, straight-back chair. In fact, we had not given any parties at our house. Although Darlene has seen Nancy from a distance on several occasions, she does not remember ever having met her. Darlene's dream suggests that she was in some way aware of Nancy's dreaming involvement with our concerns and activities. Assuming that the dream does relate to our collaboration in teaching about dreams, certain themes appear to be relevant to our working relationship and to the nature and purpose of dream interpretation. I had been concerned for some time that Nancy's assistance with my course was unrecognized and without reward except for a brief "thank you" at the end of each quarter. Her dream assures me that she is "delighted to serve" and that she wishes to "continue serving, enjoying everything." She is "totally pleased" with her contributions to what she believes to be a "fun course." Nancy's dream suggests that a primary purpose for attending to dreams may be to enhance our appreciation of life. Imagining dream interpretation to be a kind of luxury cruise, "it doesn't matter one whit" where it is going because "it's for fun!" The emotional atmosphere of the cruise is one of "marvelous feelings" and of enhanced appreciation for nature, clothing, jewelry, music, decorations, workmanship, conversation and food. Leading the dream group is somewhat like "conducting an orchestra." Finally, dream interpretation is compared to salt, pepper and other spices sprinkled from sparkling, cut crystal shakers. Nancy, the dream group leader, goes from one group to the next "sprinkling salt and pepper and other 'stuff' on the food." The metaphor suggests that reflecting upon dreams 115 |
