Talk with the Dolphins?
Entresueño!
For some time, consulting editor
Jack Johnston (see Sundance, II(1),
50) had the strong intuition that it
would be possible to communicate
with dolphins through the dream
state. He could well envision a group
of people meditating on the shores of a
dolphin playground to establish
initial contact; then in their dreams,
learning to exchange specific
information with the dolphins that
could later be verified in the waking
state. Then Jack had the following
dream:
1) I'm down at a pier on the ocean.
There's been a terrible multicar
accident. There are 20 or 30
corpses floating in the shallow
water. Suddenly I am in the water
offshore and a dolphin swims up.
I think, "Oh great! This is the
chance I've been waiting for!" I
use mental telepathy to let the
dolphin know that I love and
respect him and wish to
communicate with him. He rears
way up out of the water and looks
at me directly in the eye with that
perpetual smiling expression
that dolphins have. I "beam" to
him that I admire his magnificent
body, including his magnificent
brain, and repeat my desire to
communicate with him. The
dolphin immediately swims over
to me and beams the message,
"Take hold! Come on!" I grab his
fin and climb on. We head out to
sea. I'm filled with joy with the
sensual experience and with the
knowledge that my idea about
communicating with dolphins is
confirmed.
Also supportive of Jack's idea is a
statement attributed to a Huichol
shaman in an interview reported by
John Lilly (author of Mind of the
Dolphin) in his recent book, The Deep
Self. When asked how he might
attempt to communicate with
dolphins, the Mexican-Indian
medicine man replied, "Entresueño! "-within the dream. He
explained that he would fast for three
days from salt and sex, then go to the
beach to deliver his prayers of petition
to Grandmother Ocean. That night in
his dreams, he would meet with the
dolphins.
Thus encouraged, Jack wants to

get together with others who would be
interested in such a project, to attempt
communication with dolphins
through dreams. He would also
appreciate receiving any dreams
about dolphins. Actdress: 4822 St.

We Dream of Nixon
In 1974 I had a dream involving
Richard Nixon:
I am attending the wedding of
two friends, that is being held in a
huge cathedral. I happen to sit
next to H.R. Haldeman and
exchange a few pleasantries with
him before the bride makes her
entrance. After the brief
marriage ceremony, the minister
asks the guests to play a musical
salute to the couple. All kinds of
instruments are handed out. Mr.
Haldeman receives a trumpet.
Just as the minister is to begin the
tribute, Richard Nixon appears
from nowhere and whispers into
Haldeman's ear, whereupon
Haldeman blows a discordant
note before the music can begin,
and the planned salute is ruined.
This dream led me to wonder how
others saw Nixon in their dreams and
I began to actively search for dreams
of the former president in hopes of
being able to publish a large
collection of them. The results so far
have been fascinating. Nixon has
appeared in America's unconscious in
roles ranging from a football coach
who walks on stilts to a student of
Eastern wisdom. Several of the
dreams in which Nixon appeared had
profound effects upon the dreamers. A
young girl of 12, who had a terrible
fear of UFOs, believing that they were
monitoring her thoughts, dreamed
that Nixon marshalled the forces of
the world in an apocalyptic battle
with the aliens and won a tremendous
victory. Surprisingly enough, many
people who do not like the man have
dreamed of Nixon sympathetically
and sometimes with admiration. It is
encouraging to discover that some
dreams view the fallen president with
compassion. One woman dreamed:
I see Mr. Nixon standing some
distance away from me. There
are many people around, but he is
speaking to no one. He is dressed
as usual in a suit and tie, but looks
