my first feeling is that it seems to be happening to me.

"In one dream, I saw a young man killed in a car/train collision. I awakened rapidly with the sensation that the whole house was vibrating and I felt great fear, which was what the young man probably felt as he saw the train bearing down on his car just before it was struck and demolished."

Many people have had dreams of the injury, sickness or death of close relatives and friends, and Herb is no exception. He has dreamed of the death of most of his relatives, and feels that the warning comes to help him prepare for the shock of the actual happening. Luckily, not all of Herb’s dreams are of this type. Most of his dreams, like ours, contain symbology that appears to be silly and senseless, but Herb has found that in working out the meaning, the symbology is not senseless but is pertinent to the problem or situation at hand. There is meaning to all dream symbology—it just takes some work, and often time, to understand what dreams are trying to say. "It all has meaning if one can work it out," Herb says. "It seems to me that our dreams are very much like the parables told by Christ. We dream little scenes in a play which, when we understand it, has a message just for us. The scenes fit together like a picture in a jigsaw puzzle. As I start understanding one scene, I begin to see where the next scene aids in completing the picture in the puzzle, and as I continue, the meaning becomes clearer."In his dreams, there is symbology taken from the daily experiences and emotions in his life—as well as from his past—coupled with basic and universal symbols. He always dreams in vivid color, so the meaning of colors to him becomes an important part of working out interpretations. A truly spiritual person, in Herb’s dreams, is symbolized as someone who is working very hard, with his sleeves rolled up and his clothes dirty, and perhaps even sweating with exertion. This symbol presents an apt picture to Herb of the effort needed to make spiritual progress as one works with the problems of one’s conscious life.

A quite common dream for Herb is one in which spiritual guidance is imparted. He tells of having this type of dream one night after going to bed very concerned about learning how to meditate properly and achieving the correct results: I am in a classroom. I pull up a chair to sit down and a student jerks it away from me. I say nothing to him, but simply pull up another chair and sit down. The teacher then accuses me of scuffing up the wax on the floor. Even though I am not to blame, I offer to rewax the floor after the class. I then concentrate so hard upon my lessons, that the class and the teacher leave the classroom without my noticing. Later, in reviewing this part of his dream, he  realized that  he  had  not felt angry  or resentful in
