particular colors will have value. But in the long run, and
in the majority of instances, what is of more value to the
dreamer is that he or she develop a personal sense of the
meaning of color. To do this the
dreamer must have
access to the vibrational experience of the
color that is
presented in the
dream. The experience of
the
vibrational effects of the color
is the source of the
dream's color-message or impact.
Finally, then, the
existence of the "2" rating value gives recognition
to this
fact, and prompts the
dreamer to test
his color
memories to see if the
experience of the color is
actually recalled. Color is just one
of the qualitative
categories used in this rating system, but
in each case
the rationale is similar. Besides providing data on dream
recall helpful to research goals, the 0-1-2 rating scale in
each category prompts the dreamer to pay
attention to
particular aspects of the recalled dream, and encourages
the development of a vivid memory for
dreams which
goes beyond the mere recall of narrative,
so that the
dreamer may draw directly upon the experience
of the
dream for the guidance or healing that is sought.
Given this rationale,
and the example worked out
with color, we'll go on to define
all of the qualitative
categories. Each category uses the
same basic 0-1-2
rating system, and every dream
is to be rated with
respect to each of these categories.
Visual (Vi): Dreams are usually a visual
representation,
and
most dreams would be rated "1"
in this
category.
The occasional dream
which is
basically
a "sentence," or
the one which is
recalled
so incompletely that only the
theme
of
the dream is remembered
(quantitative
recall
category F) might be scored "0"
if no
visual
images are connected with the
dream.
The
rating of "2"
is reserved for
those
instances
in which the dreamer
can still
"see"
parts of the dream
as the dream is
recalled.
If the dreamer can still
"see" parts
of
the dream, then, it should be

the scene in
